Research
Research interests include the coastal ocean and estuaries, the atmospheric boundary layer, surface and subsurface hydrology, water-ecosystem interactions, land-atmosphere interactions, numerical methods, turbulence, contaminant transport, groundwater flow, biological fluid mechanics, water resource sustainability, and the intersections of these and many other topics. These research areas are connected by their fundamental dependence on fluid flows and dynamics.
Coastal and Estuarine Flow
Environmental and anthropogenic processes in coastal regions, shoreline adaptation, estuaries, sediment transport, and exchange across interfaces.
Atmospheric Boundary Layer
Wind energy, smoke transport, air quality, turbulence, and flow over complex terrain.
Hydrology and Ecohydrology
Surface and subsurface hydrology, wetlands, fog-water use, water availability, and links between water, carbon, and ecosystems.
Stratified and Turbulent Flow
Waves, instabilities, ocean mixing, transition to turbulence, numerical methods, laboratory experiments, observations, and theory.
