San Francisco Bay's expansive intertidal mudflats are thought to be energetic zones for phytoplankton production, which would cause baywide nutrient-related water quality issues. My current research at Berkeley with Prof. Mark Stacey uses numerical models to understand the physics and parameterizations of partially stratified estuaries with shoal-channel morphology. My PhD at Colorado State University focused on environmental flows interacting with obstacles using large eddy simulations.
